Street Hockey Sticks
Which Stick Should I Use for Street Hockey?
When selecting a street hockey stick, the first consideration should be the material. Sticks used for street hockey, often referred to as roller hockey sticks or inline hockey sticks, are crafted from wood or composite materials.
Typically, street hockey enthusiasts favour a stick with a wooden shaft. These are generally more affordable than composite sticks and are preferable for street hockey due to their robustness and weight. Conversely, sticks made from composite materials are lighter and offer easier manoeuvrability.
How to Determine the Correct Size for a Street Hockey Stick?
Sticks for inline hockey and roller hockey are sized by the shaft alone (excluding the blade). Usually, hockey sticks for adults range from 140 to 158 cm (4'8"-5'3"). In contrast, junior hockey sticks are narrower and measure between 116 to 138 cm (3'10"- 4'7").
To identify the appropriate size hockey stick, hold it in front of you vertically with the toe of the blade on the ground, and the shaft extending towards your chin. If the street hockey stick does not reach above your chin while wearing skates, they are correctly sized.
Is it Possible to Play Street Hockey With an Ice Hockey Stick?
Absolutely, an ice hockey stick can be utilised for roller hockey and inline hockey. It is advisable to opt for an ABS blade when playing street hockey, as they are usually more resilient and capable of withstanding the abrasions of asphalt.
