The BMX top cap is the screw located at the top of your fork, just above the headset. This small yet crucial component is often overlooked but plays a significant role. It not only compresses your fork and stem against the headtube of your frame but also secures your headset in place to ensure smooth bar rotations.
There are various names for top caps, such as BMX compression bolt, compression cap, or BMX fork bolt. All these terms refer to the same component and are used interchangeably. BMX top cap bolts are typically made from aluminum, ensuring they don’t add excessive weight to your bike.
When it comes to top caps, you need to ensure compatibility with your fork. The most critical factor is the thread size, which can be found in our product descriptions and specification section.
How to Install and Remove Top Caps
Installing and removing a top cap is a relatively simple process. To replace the cap, first, loosen the stem bolts using either a 6 or 8 mm Allen key. Once loosened, use the appropriately sized Allen key to unscrew the old top cap and replace it with the new one. Ensure the cap is screwed in securely so your setup feels sturdy.
