Surfboard bags protect your boards from damages that can occur outside the water. Common issues like dings on the tail and surface, delamination, and dewaxation happen frequently to uncovered boards. Additionally, a quality surf bag or SUP bag provides protection from the elements, particularly the sun’s UV rays and heat, which can cause your board's color to fade over time.
Are There Different Surfboard Bags?
There are three types of surfboard bags: socks, day board bags, and travel bags. Surfboard socks are soft, lightweight woven fabric covers that are less than two millimeters thick. Day board bags are the most common; they are lightweight, padded, and perfect for protecting your surfboard. Surfboard travel bags have ten millimeters of padding and are suitable for longer trips.
What Surfboard Bag Size Should I Get?
Choose a bag that easily stores and properly protects your board. If it’s too small and tight, your board will be prone to dings. A bag that’s too big will feel loose and make the board uncomfortable to transport. Before selecting your next surfboard bag, measure the length, width, and thickness of your board. Length will determine the size of your bag, and it’s recommended to get a bag the same size or two inches bigger than your board.
Width and thickness influence the style of bag you’ll need. Each board is different depending on the water sports discipline. If it’s not obvious which style of bag your board fits in, you can compare dimensions to decide.
