Maintaining your inline skates will prolong their lifespan and save you from spending on expensive replacement parts. Fortunately, inline skate maintenance doesn't have to be overly complex or time-consuming. There are various maintenance tools and accessories available to keep your skates looking and performing like new.
Examples of inline skate maintenance tools include disinfectant spray to eliminate bad odors, metal glue, and bearing cleaner.
How Do I Clean My Inliners?
Regular cleaning is crucial for your inline skates maintenance. For your boot, frame, and wheels, you can simply use a wet cloth, water, and regular dish soap. For your liner, you need to check your specific model to see the appropriate washing temperature.
One of the most important components to keep clean is your bearings. For this, you will need a specific skate bearing cleaner and cleansing agent. For detailed information on bearing maintenance, check out our guide on Bearing Cleaning and Lubrication.
How Do You Remove Inline Skates Bearings?
Using an Allen key for inline skates, press the key inside your axle while holding the wheel firmly as you loosen it. This will prevent you from stripping your axle. Once you have removed your wheels, slide your tool halfway to the center of the bearing and, while rotating your wheel, slowly pry your bearing and spacer out.
If your wheels use a long sleeve bearing spacer, roller blade bearing removal tools come equipped with a bearing pusher. Simply insert the tool inside the bearing and push the bearing out while holding the wheel firmly.
