Glide wax for skis is designed to increase speed and improve glide. This wax smooths the front and back of the skis, resulting in a smoother glide.
For the average cross-country skier, universal glide wax is an excellent option. If you want to ensure premium glide, consider using glide wax tailored for different temperatures.
XC Skiing Like a Pro - with Ski Glide Wax
Serious and professional cross-country skiers can be quite meticulous about selecting the right iron and glide wax for their skis, often applying a fresh layer of glide wax each time they ski. On the other hand, many beginners and recreational skiers seldom, if ever, wax their skis. A balance between these two approaches is usually optimal for most skiers.
There are essentially two types of glide wax for cross-country skis. Hot wax requires application with a hot iron at the correct temperature. This type of wax is highly durable and may last most of the season for occasional skiers. Then there is the "everyday wax," which can be applied on top of the hot wax before hitting the slopes.
If you're new to cross-country skiing, don't stress over waxing your skis daily. While the right glide wax can provide extra speed, it pales in comparison to the impact of the right kick wax. If you're not very experienced, focus your efforts on the kick waxing process.
