3 Tips to Boost Your Speed on Skates
Achieve unprecedented speed with these 3 simple tips and techniques from speed skate world champion Felix Rijhen.
Whether you're aiming to beat your personal best or are new to inline speed skating, we teamed up with Felix Rijhen, inline speed skate world champion, to bring you 3 tips for a strong start in the thrilling and fast-paced world of speed skates.
Balance Your Skills with the Right Gear
Choosing the right skate is crucial. When you look at professional and intermediate speed skaters, you’ll notice they often use low cuff boots. However, Felix advises that low cuff boots aren't always ideal for beginners.
“Starting with a high cuff boot and smaller wheels is a good idea. As you improve, you can upgrade your gear. Move to a longer frame, bigger wheels, and perhaps eventually a low cuff boot,” he suggests.
Technique: The Key to Success
You've got your cutting-edge speed skates, but before you can lead the pack, there's one crucial element you need.
“Don’t forget to focus on your technique. To fully utilize your skates, achieve high speeds, and enjoy the experience, you need proper technique. Perfect your skating position and work on balancing on one foot. This will greatly enhance your skating experience,” Felix advises.
